Welcome students! We are excited about the new semester, with the chance to build a learning community that will allow us to explore our environment and engage with others here at USC and outside community as we create projects to increase sustainability. Please respond to the following community building question:
What place in nature do you have a special connection to?
What place in nature do you have a special connection to?
My grandparents' land in the mountains of Colorado. We've hiked and forged so many trails and spent countless moments on the porch swing staring out at the mountains all around us. I love laying out at night and seeing millions of stars coat the sky unlike I can see anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteThe Finger Lakes in Upstate New York are one of my favorite places in nature because they are natural lakes, not man-made ones, and the natural filtration of the water allow the freshwater lakes to stay clean. My favorite lake, Keuka Lake, offers a nice retreat from everyday life in only a short drive from many cities such as Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo. There are many different landscapes and geographic areas that can be found around the Finger Lakes, such as farms, vineyards, hills/mountaneous regions, rivers, etc. My favorite things to do at the Finger Lakes is boatind and waterskiing.
ReplyDeleteI live on an 80 acre tree farm. We have a pond, swamp areas, and a creek. When ever i feel the need to just escape or getaway, i retreat to one of these locations. Our woods are so quiet and secluded, and nature is always a pacifying sound. I love the fact that I can travel 15 minutes on foot and I can reach a creek that has wildlife surrounding it. One of my favorite activities to do is catch crawdads in the creek. Even though I live on a tree farm, we only harvest trees every 15- 20 years which allows for a lot of growth. Most of our trees are huge and hundreds of years old. There used to be an old plantation behind my house, so there is even an old trade road in my woods. To be so close to so much history makes my woods that much more special to me.
ReplyDeleteWow i want to explore that tree farm :) Thanks for sharing all! Megan K- I spent a semester at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glenn NY- i visited Hector Falls quite a bit!
ReplyDeleteYosemite National Park feels like home for me. I love living in a community of like-minded people, of being able to explore the Sierra Navadas, of being able to dunk my head in the river on a daily basis, climbing a rock after work because it's just at most a 10 minute bike ride away, and most of all, I love who I become when I'm surrounded by this beauty and by this lifestyle. I love how I feel when I'm cooking in the community kitchens with a group of people from all over the states. These are all things I find important and fulfilling in my life: Being surrounded by nature, with people I love, and choosing to live a lifestyle I fully believe in.
